Story
The Omnichord was introduced in 1981 by the Suzuki Musical Instrument Corporation. Following the success of the Omnichord OM27 , they released the Omnichord System Two Model OM-84.
The Omnichord typically features a touch plate, and buttons for major, minor, and 7th chords. The most basic method of playing the instrument is to press the chord buttons and swipe the touch plate with a finger or guitar pick in imitation of strumming a stringed instrument. Originally designed as an electronic substitute for an autoharp, the Omnichord has become popular as an individual instrument in its own right, due to its unique, chiming timbre and its value as a kitsch object.
Like the OM27 with its 27 chords, the name of the OM84 is directly related to the amount of chord variations available to the Omnichordist. Three rows of newly designed rubber chord buttons provided 84 major, minor, seventh (M & m), augmented and diminished chords for the OM84. the System Two includes twin strum plate voices with variable sustain. The two sounds could be mixed via a double rotary control giving many new possibilities for the Sonic Strings. The Chord buttons had an interesting new feature; two colors were used to mimic the layout of 19 piano keys. (C-G). The biggest new addition was the on board Chord Computer allowing the user to record a sequence of chords which could be started and stopped via panel buttons or optional foot switch. Included with the Omnichord is a durable carrying case, manual, and a/c adapter.
