I have been in studios with tube mic preamp setups that cost more than my car; this isn't quite as featured or esoteric but you can't go wrong with a rackable (or stackable) dual channel tube mic pre with 48v phantom, pad, and lighted VU meters. It's a definite step up from the small tube pre I used to use and the option to have a solid-state pre, a tube, or in between is phenomenal-it can smooth out a harsh mic or give you a boosted clean signal to process. nice 1/2 rack 2 ch preamp w/ some tube-y color! Seems to have some headroom for the acoustic gtrs that are passing through it.
